Weekly Update - March 22nd, 2024

Dear ECS Family,

Monday, March 25th is Tolkien Reading Day. Students are permitted to dress as a Tolkien character (no orcs, balrogs, or giant spiders). We celebrate Tolkien Reading Day for many reasons. First, it helps is create and sustain a culture of reading and loving books. Second, Tolkien is widely regarded as a father of an entire genre of contemporary literature. Third, Tolkien’s books have inspired Christian thought for decades now. Tolkien himself was instrumental in the conversion of C. S. Lewis. In our own time, Dr. Donald T. Williams wrote An Encouraging Thought: The Christian Worldview in the Writings of J. R. R. Tolkien and it is a worthwhile resource for better understanding Tolkien’s thought.

Next Friday, March 29th, is Good Friday. We do not have school, and this kicks off Easter break. Normal classes will resume on Monday, April 8th. The winners of our Easter Egg sale are as follows:
Top Selling Guild - Assassins of Indulgence
Top Selling Class - 5th/6th Grade
Top Selling Individuals - Haley Caputo (3rd); Anthony Lockett (2nd); Solomon Watkins (1st)
Prizes will be distributed in the near future.

The week of April 15th-19th is standardized testing. Testing is required, and we test grades 3-12. Please ensure students eat healthy breakfasts and sleep adequate amounts so they can excel in standardized testing.

That’s all for this week.

God bless!
Headmaster Batten
